Home Insurance

Why Do I Need Home Insurance?

Buying your home is likely to be one of the biggest purchases you will make. The financial investment and investment of your time in decorating and furnishing it is no small thing. None of us expect anything unforeseen to happen to our homes, but you only need to watch the news to see what could happen. Fire, floods, burglaries and more could strike any of us so why leave it to chance.

What Types Of Home Insurance Are There?

Essentially home insurance or house insurance is broken down into 2 types, buildings insurance and contents insurance. Buildings insurance covers the house itself, the bricks and mortar whereas contents insurance covers most everything else.

Many companies will offer you the full package of buildings and contents insurance if you prefer. The level of cover that you need depends on the value of your house, and the value of all the contents contained within so you need to work that out roughly in order to adequately cover yourself.

As with most insurance, the more you are covered for, the more it costs so don't massively over insure. It may be worth including extra if you are still buying things for your home but if the value of your contents is £35,000 then it is likely to be unnecessary insuring the contents for £90,000 as this will increase the cost of your premium.
